General
Guidelines
Word attachments are preferred. A cover letter and two to three-line
bio should be included in the body of your email. Please let us
know the section to which you'd like to contribute by including
it in the subject line of your email. Also include your full name
in the subject line. Submissions should be emailed to editors@heretheremag.com
unless otherwise specified. We currently prefer to receive one to
two submissions per year from individual writers. Please allow up
to four weeks for a response before inquiring about the status of
your submission.
About Feature Articles
While there are exceptions, feature stories in our Music, Visual
Art, Literature and Theatre/Film sections are usually 1,500-2,000
words in length. We tend to handpick our feature article contributors,
but if you have a great story or idea, we're open to hearing from
you. Please email us at editors@heretheremag.com
with your story pitch or idea before sending a completed feature
article for consideration.
Our Current Needs for Section Articles
From Here to There (Music, Visual Art, Literature, Theatre/Film)
Do you have a question for a professional in the fields of music,
visual art, literature or theatre/film? Ask one of our experts by
clicking here.
Lick it Up (Music)
Are you a studied musician? We want to hear your licks! Whether
you play the guitar or the oboe, we're interested in knowing what
you know. Please send a brief paragraph describing how to play your
lick to Kirk Sonnenberg at kirk@heretheremag.com.
Indicate whether your lick is meant to be played by a beginner,
intermediate or advanced player.
Why Revise? (Literature)
Are you a published novelist, short story writer, poet, playwright,
non-fiction or academic writer? We want you to tell us about your
revising process in a way that would be beneficial to others. Your
article should be 850-1,000 words in length.
My Amazing Kid (Visual Art)
We know that there are a lot of working visual artists out there
who are mothers and fathers. We want to know how your children affect
your work, and also, about any unique challenges you face as a working
artist and parent. My Amazing Kid section articles should be 350-500
words in length.
Rock-n-Roll Socialite (Music)
Do you regularly attend local shows in your city of residence? Do
you have a favorite band in your home town that could use some exposure?
Write about your experiences at a show. If you know the band members
personally and interact with them before or after the show, we will
consider this a plus. This section is meant to be fun, so the zanier,
the better. Rock-n-Roll Socialite articles should be 350-500 words
in length.
Beginnings (Theatre/Film)
Are you a theatre or film professional who feels that you're on
your way? Have you had some recent success? We want to know what
you did and how you pulled it off. How might others do the same
thing? What challenges did you encounter along the way, and how
did you overcome them? Beginnings section articles should be 350-500
words in length.
Graphic Design & Photography
Please do not send us your entire portfolio. Instead, choose three
to five images that best represent your work as a whole, and send
them as GIF or JPEG files. Graphic design
and photography submissions can be sent to: editors@heretheremag.com.
Please include a cover letter and brief bio in the body of your
email.
